The Web Typography Tool was developed with the goal of assisting in generation of grids for web design. Based on the concept of letter size as the standard unit of measurement for typographic grids in traditional media, the tool uses the em unit, the standard unit of measurement for fonts in stylesheets, as its standard unit to generate typographic grids for the Web.

The tool assists designers in choosing optimal font parameters (such as letter size and line height) for their designs while being able to see letter size, line breaks and other page rendering differences between OSes directly on the browser.
